Major championships provide a microcosm of how quickly things can fluctuate in football, an acute insight into the changes in fortune teams can experience.

England's tournament so far has been a prime illustration of this. A poor performance and opening defeat to France had their European title defence on the brink. Just four days later, they looked back to their best as they cruised past the Netherlands to put qualification for the quarterfinals firmly in their control.

Just as France had outsmarted and outclassed England, so the Lionesses did to the Dutch. Sarina Wiegman and Arjan Veurink are understandably incredibly knowledgeable about the Netherlands' strengths and weaknesses and they got the game plan spot on.
